Why comparison between different chemical extraction procedures is necessary to better assess the metals availability in sediments

چکیده
Single and sequential extractions are current useful tools for estimating the availability of metals in soils or sediments. Many chemical extraction procedures have been proposed literature, making comparison difficult. This study compares data consistency potential given by four commonly found literature: two single (using dilute HCl EDTA as reactant) (the modified standardized 3-steps procedure Standards, Measurements Testing Programme (SMTP), namely BCR-extraction, 7-steps Leleyter Probst (1999), LP-extraction). The leaching all performed on reference lake sediment CRM BCR-701, used a to assess accuracy Rauret et al. (1999). results show similar availabilities between leaches Zn, Cu, Cr Pb BCR Ni. LP-extraction is most aggressive tested (except extraction), mainly due better exchangeable fraction, dissolution acido-soluble phase particularly amorphous crystalline Fe-oxides. reveals major problem extraction, potentially formation lead precipitates during LP-extractions, even if an overestimation cannot be excluded.

This is a short commentary to the editorial issued by Marianna Fotaki, entitled: “Why and how is compassion necessary to provide good quality healthcare.” It introduces the necessity of a more cognitive approach to explore further the determinants of behavior towards compassionate care. It raises questions about the importance of training towards a more patient-care and values driven healthcare...
متن کاملExtraction of spiked metals from contaminated coastal sediments: a comparison of different methods.
Various extraction methods have been developed to assess metal bioavailability from sediments. In this study, we compared the extraction of Cd, Cr, and Zn from contaminated sediments using different extractants (normal seawater, acidic seawater of pH = 5. seawater with 1% sodium dodecyl sulfate [SDS], and gut digestive fluids collected in vitro from deposit-feeding peanut worm Sipunculus nudus)...

15 صفحه اولWhy and How Is Compassion Necessary to Provide Good Quality Healthcare?
Recent disclosures of failures of care in the National Health Service (NHS) in England have led to debates about compassion deficits disallowing health professionals to provide high quality responsive care. While the link between high quality care and compassion is often taken for granted, it is less obvious how compassion – often originating in the individual’s emotional response – can become ...
متن کاملA Review of Sequential Extraction Procedures for Heavy Metals Speciation in Soil and Sediments
Volume 1 • Issue 3 • 2012 A wide range of techniques is available whereby various extraction reagents and experimental conditions are used. These techniques involve a 5step [8], 4step (BCR, Bureau Commune de Reference of the European Commission) and 6-step [13] extraction, and are thus becoming popular and adopted methods used for sequential extraction [14,15]. Several analytical methods have b...
